To explain, the demo differs from the full game in that you are able to run the game without going through the usually required step of selecting Play from the config app. For the demo, you should run the ‘fifaconfig.exe’ file before launching the game to configure your settings. You can do this by selecting Game Settings when you see this screen:
1) Display Configuration Tips:
- Ensure that V-sync is selected
- If you have set the game to the highest visual settings and it is not running smoothly, you may want to try reducing or turning of the anti-aliasing (MSAA Options) or reducing the resolution settings until you find one that runs best for your PC. Although it is tempting to select the highest resolution, some PC’s simply don’t have the horsepower to back this up when it comes to playing the game.
2) Keyboard Mapping
I’ve seen several keyboard users and threads where there is frustration so I hope this helps to explain. For FIFA 11 PC we have opted to focus mainly on the gamepad user as the best gameplay experience can be had using this type of control. You cannot use in-game mouse controls like one could in FIFA 10 PC (or in FIFA Online) but you can use the keyboard.
The button icon art for FIFA 11 PC is hardcoded to be tailored to the Xbox360 Controller for Windows user. Until someone comes up with a mod for this (), this art cannot be changed. You CAN however fully customize your controller experience and it is generally a 2 step process where there are 2 rules to remember. Firstly, the fifaconfig app allows you to map Buttons (or keys) to Buttons. Secondly, once in-game, that is where you can map Buttons to Actions. In a perfect world this could be done all at once and within the game however there are many technical hurdles related to this and we opted with this method as a result for FIFA 11 PC.
To map your keyboard keys to buttons:
Step 1: Select Game Settings from the fifaconfig.exe app and map buttons (keys) to button icons
Select the In-Game Keyboard tab at the top and you will see this screen
Here you can click on any of the boxes next to a button icon and press the key you would like to map to that specific button. NOTE: This is the part that seems to be confusing for people as they don’t know what action they are mapping to. I totally understand. As mentioned, there were some technical hurdles associated with having the game communicate with the config and we have had to map the ACTIONS in-game to the buttons / keys that the user selects here.
Select the Controller tab at the top to map controller buttons to Xbox360 button icons.
TIP: There is a PRINT button on the above screens. If you are having trouble remembering what key you mapped to which button icon, printing out this screen might be a good reference for you until you get used to playing.
To help you reference the default ACTIONS that you might want to associate the above keys with, you can use these 2 screens from in-game visual as a guide. Hopefully that saves you some time.

Now that you have mapped buttons (keys) to buttons in the config app, when you are here, those buttons can be mapped to ACTIONS. Main Menu / MY FIFA 11 / SETTINGS / CONTROLLER SETTINGS
Defence Controls (default)
NOTE TO ALT-TAB USERS: You cannot alt-tab out of the game, change a button to button mapping in the config file, and then go back into the game and expect it to take the change. You’d need to close the game down and start it up again for that new change to take place.
3) Keyboard Use in Menus
You can use the keyboard and mouse in the main menus. These keys are hardcoded to these buttons so when you are in the menus and want to use a keyboard, these are the keys associated with actions. This is good to reference if you are a VOIP user as well since the button controls are not shown in-game for MUTE, VOLUME UP, and VOLUME DOWN.
4) Supported Controllers
I’ve seen some people with controller issues and its most likely due to that controller not being supported by the game. We officially support 35 different gamepads however there may be more that work with the game as well. These are the supported controllers:

When I chose to customize the game pad and after assigning all the buttons to the respective effect.... In Arena mode it works fine.... when the game starts the Finesse shot and Sliding tackle option gets interchanged....
It may be confusing but this is what I am trying to tell:
Arena Mode -
LT - Chip Shot, B - Lob and Sliding tackle.....
Match Mode -
LT - Finesse Shot, X - Shoot and Sliding Tackle.....
I have to reconfigure every time in the match mode again...... SAD:)
And also PLEASE PLEASE CHANGE THE FONT that is selected for the name and number of the player.... In Juventus Jersey it looks like its painted with a big brush.... also the Juve outfit in particular the strips are out of proportion.....

You are turning the game into that nonsense PES, now you only need to remove TRIGGER RUN command (not to mention how bad it already works) and you are done.
RS + Direction should manually switch players and I hope the GOALKEEPER too. I assigned a key for RS and guess what, no switching to any player or the goalkeeper and at least tell me is it even possible to switch to the goalkeeper?
THROW INS are now a BIG JOKE too!
But plenty of d*mb people to fill your pockets.

Gamepad can be configured in game, keyboard can't be configured in game :)
it doesn't consider keyboard as a gaming device and ask for the gaming device to put in :)|||I find it pretty hilarious how you cannot map the square button on a ps3 controller - every other button works but square causes an error.
With the ingame icons being represented by microsoft (360 controller) it's making me wonder if this was an intentional ploy in order to make us buy a microsoft controller and not use sony.

I can play the demo but only if I open the game demo directly from "fifa11.exe" so it has lame graphics, because I cant configure them.
